A beautiful smile can conquer hearts if not the world but for the beauty to be perfect you need to have a gorgeous set of teeth. Your smile can be twitchy, distorted or even utterly unsightly if you have problems with your teeth - problems such as an uneven set of teeth, the discoloring of teeth, the broken tooth or teeth and the gap between two teeth. To enable the sufferer to get rid of these problems, dental surgeries are done.

With activities ranging from reshaping to whitening teeth dental cosmetic surgeries are now being increasingly popular particularly with celebrities, who yearn to have a healthy sheen in their teeth. However, the procedures involved are far from comfortable. Moreover, these surgeries do take out a good sum of money from your pocket or purse.

Teeth Whitening

The most common form of dental cosmetic surgery is perhaps dental bleaching or, in simpler terms, teeth whitening. As a person grows old, his/her adult teeth tend to become dark and gradually darker due to mineral composition changes. Sometimes, bacterial infection makes your teeth yellowish, and, in many cases, smoking and drinking change the color of your teeth. The yellowish or dark teeth steal the beauty of your smile. When gels, toothpastes, mouthwashes and the like cannot do the job people have to have recourse to dental surgery.

Teeth whitening can be done both at home by yourself and at a dental clinic by the dentist. Bleaching can be done using the bleaching agent carbamide peroxide, which breaks down into the oxidizing agent hydrogen peroxide in the mouth. There can be both high concentration and low concentration of the gel consisting of the bleaching agent. The high concentration one is of course more effective and stays for a longer period of time. You can try the bleaching method yourself if you have the gel and a whitening kit at home but it is always recommended that you have a dentist check your teeth first and use the method only after the dentist has prescribed it for you. There is always an awful chance of over-bleaching. And there are many risks associated with teeth bleaching which include an increase in teeth sensitivity, gum irritation and sometimes even tongue cancer.

Dental Veneer

Dental Veneer is the process of covering up a visible portion of tooth with a tooth colored material either for aesthetic reasons or for protecting the tooth. The tooth colored material is extremely adhesive. The two main types of this material are porcelain veneer and composite veneer. Veneer is used by dentists to fix a single tooth or the whole set of teeth to give them a new perfect look. It can also help fill up any gaps that there may be between your teeth which may look disturbing while you smile. Sometimes, to cover a missing tooth or a big space between two teeth a dental bridge meaning a false tooth is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area which holds in place the false tooth or teeth that are attached onto your teeth on each side. Also, multiple veneers can help lengthen those teeth that have worn out and can fill up those dark places between the teeth that have blackened due to the recession of gum. All in all, veneers can make your teeth appear straight and uniform. However, you need to make sure that your dentist is an expert otherwise you may have your teeth harmed.

Dental Implant

Dental implants are fittings of titanium which are attached to the jaw bone through a surgery. These fake teeth are the strongest at the front part of the lower jaw. Dental implants can replace the missing tooth and they are much stronger than dental bridges and removable dentures.

Technology has become so advanced that a flaw in your otherwise perfect smile can be corrected with the help of a few surgeries. If you cannot find a dental clinic with the required facilities in your own country you can go abroad and the cosmetic dental surgery there will edit your teeth superbly. However, such dental surgeries are not only greatly expensive; they are painful and include some harmful side effects. Therefore, before taking a decision you should definitely talk to a renowned professional dentist and also judge whether the teeth makeover you want is worth the pain and the trouble that you will have to go through.
