Nothing is more divine than saving a life. Imbued with this spirit of divinity, BRAC Bank has undertaken a blood donation programme aimed at creating a blood bank for Thalassemia Hospital in Bangladesh. Inspired by managing director AEA Muhaimen, the bank employees gathered at the bank canteen on November 12 and donated their blood voluntarily, setting an example of a humanitarian gesture worth emulating.

Thalassemia is a disease characterized by an inherited impairment of haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen through the body. About 375000 people in Bangladesh are known to be suffering from the disease, twice-a-month blood infusion keeping them alive.

Dhaka Regency is known for its culinary successes. Now in winter the five-star hotel is offering the luxury of another of its specialities - Regency Poolside BBQ Carnival. The gourmet grandeur serving includes juicy, tangy, tongue-tickling, charcoal-burnt meat done on the roof top in everyone's presence. As an accompaniment to this food fashion there is live music and what-not. The pleasure time is from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. every Thursday and Friday.

It was the first to travel to the moon; it is already James Bond's obsession and an enviable emblem of status and dignity. And now it is the world's first watch to bond ceramics and Liquidmetal®; it is OMEGA.

Swatch Group researchers, in collaboration with OMEGA's Product Development Team, have created a stunning ceramic diving bezel whose numbers and scaling, made of the Liquidmetal® alloy, appear in striking silvery contrast to the black ceramic background. The ultimate result is the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal® Limited Edition, a marvel of modern technology that redefines longevity of a watch and blends beauty with convenience.

For the first time in Bangladesh, American Express Cards are coming to the market, City Bank issuing them under franchise. The announcement was made at a press conference held on November 7. Informed quarters take the view that this new initiative by City Bank will promote the bank's business interests, given the prestige attached to American Express.
